Project Phase IV - Evaluation, transfer and sustainability

September 2002

Target Review

Review of LHP/PR logs indicates that over 600 women have been reached by the project to date.

Future
Funding

Consultant is hired to look into future funding for the project and to write funding proposals, supervised by the LAZO Co-investigator and the CCHC manger of Community Health Promotion.

The Project team agrees that her work will be supervised by the Project Co-Investigator and the CCHC Manager of Community Health Promotion.

Web-Site

Development of concept and text for web-site continues; web-site layout is presented and approved.

In-Depth
Interview Analysis

Coded sections of the interviews are analyzed. The Transtheoretical Model (TTM ) is used to assess the stage each woman is at in terms of cancer screening behaviour.

Interviews

Staff interviews continue, with some responses in writing.

Presentation

Project information and some findings are presented during the Multicultural Health Information Day, organized by the City of Ottawa’s Health Department; PHNs and managers attend the event. LHP/PRs take lead role in the presentation.

Survey

Additional findings are summarized and reported back to the project.

Sustainability

Transfer and Sustainability Committee and - Project Team explore future program models for Mujer Sana. Strong support is expressed for the continuation of the Lay Health Promotion Model.

Key findings from survey and in-depth interviews are reviewed.

Future program direction are presented and approved; decision to seek further funding is supported by AC members.

Practices

LHP/PR practices and documentation are reviewed in depth, and suggestions for practice improvement are made to each LHP/PR.

Forum

Multicultural Health Coalition agrees to support a Forum to disseminate information about the project to other ethnocultural communities.

Sustainability

Three additional local community health centres agree to support the LHP model in principle, if funding becomes available.

Review of LHP/PR practice and documentation is completed, and supervision and support procedures are improved.

After revisions, the article “Immigrant Women Implementing Participatory Research in Health Promotion” is accepted for publication in the Western Journal of Nursing Research.

New research assistant conducts and tapes interviews with LHP/PRs in Spanish, using pre-tested interview schedule, about their experiences and involvement with Mujer Sana ­ Comunidad Sana to date.
