Mujer Sana - Comunidad Sana
Healthy Women - Healthy Communities
Mujer Sana - Comunidad Sana/Healthy Women - Healthy Communities is a 2.5-year
demonstration research project.
The goal of the project is to implement and evaluate a comprehensive model
of lay health promotion, participatory
action research, and community capacity-building
to improve cancer screening practices among Spanish-speaking women in Ottawa.
The model is based on similar successful programs used in disadvantaged populations
in Latin America, the United States, and many other countries in the world.
The project was designed to test the model in a Canadian urban setting, and
to explore its transferability to other marginalized ethno-racial immigrant
communities. We also wanted to find out if the model could be integrated within
current health promotion policy and practice.
